10-Minute Physical Assessment: Head to Toe
7 hours approved for NUR.
This course provides a practical approach to identifying assessment needs based on the symptoms presented by the patient and then provides the nurse with information needed to determine and interpret the clinical findings. Topics include: collecting objective and subjective data and physical assessment techniques including mental status/neurological, nutritional, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, genitourinary and skin and tissue assessment.
Required Text: Assessment: An Incredibly Easy Visual Pocket Guide, Lippincott Williams and Wilkins 2010, ISBN:978-1-60547-234-8.
Required Tools: Stethoscope and pen light.
Assisted Living Facility (ALF) Core Training
This course is designed for prospective Assisted Living Facility Administrators. Upon completion, each participant will receives a certificate of attendance which is a prerequisite to sit for the state ALF Core Administrator's Exam. The objective is to prepare individuals to operate an Assisted Living Facility pursuant to Florida Statute 429.52, Florida Administrative Code 58A-5.0191 and Florida Administrative Code 408.801. Completion of the four day class is mandatory in order to receive the Certificate of Attendance. The pre-requisite for this course is a High School diploma or GED and 21 years of age.
Learn Florida laws, rules, and ALF administrator's guidelines necessary to operate a standard licensed ALF facility. The four day course includes an overview of Florida Statutes and Rules, sample forms, and inter-active discussion regarding operating an Assisted Living Facility. The ALF course handouts include the Administrator's CORE Manual, copies of pertinent Statutes and Rules, nutrition guidelines, ALF forms, survey documents and Aspen survey guidelines. The Aspen guidelines are followed during the licensing process by the Agency for Health Care while conducting a survey of facility for compliance. The ALF course also includes a four hour Alzheimer's I certificate class presented by a State approved Alzheimer's instructor.
ALF Core exams are given by the University of South Florida. The testing process through the University of South Florida will be discussed during class. Passing this exam is a requirement for becoming an Assisted Living Administrator. There is a separate fee of $200 for this exam and information on exam dates and fees will be available during class. IV Therapy 30 Hours
30 hours approved for NUR.
This 30-hour program meets the F.B.O.N. I.V. Therapy requirement for LPN’s and provides the RN or LPN with a basic knowledge of I.V. Therapy practice.
Course content includes current standards of practice, a venous access device review, venipuncture techniques, I.V. medication administration and fluid management, a review of nutritional solutions, management of difficult I.V. insertions, legal aspects and vascular access protocols, a 50-question post test and limited simulated hands-on practice.
Note: This is a post graduate course.
Upon successful completion, the participant will receive documentation of 30 hours of IV Therapy Education. Good RN refresher.
Lymphedema: Introduction to Assessment and Treatment
6 hours approved for NUR, OT/OTA, & PT/PTA.
This introductory course is designed for professionals who are seeking information about treatment for the patient with chronic edema. Topics include anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system, pathology, the concept behind treatment using the lymphatic approach, treatment options and follow-up care. Demonstrations will include massage techniques. Wear comfortable clothes, attendees may participate in bandaging of the extremities.

PICC Advanced Practice Clinical One-Day

This program will comprehensively review all of the aspects of practice relating to placement of Peripheral Midlines and Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC). The course content includes patient selection and indications, anatomy and physiology, insertion techniques, site care and device maintenance, insertion related complications and post test and simulated practice.

Treating a Runner: Running Mechanics, Common Injuries, Treatment, and Training
Co-sponsored by Therapeutic Interventions of West FL, Inc. and St. Petersburg College

Participants will be able to assess the running gait cycle, recommend appropriate running shoes, and prescribe corrective exercises to treat current injury and prevent future injuries.
