POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Director, Library Services

DEPARTMENT: Academic & Student Affairs SITE: Various

SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P - GRADE: E

BASIC FUNCTION:

Plans, organizes, manages and directs the college-wide library programs and services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Directs the overall library services and programs on all campuses and sites.

v      Develops program goals and long range plans.

v      Develops, implements and maintains the budget for the collegewide library services.

v      Recommends the hiring of employees and trains, directs and evaluates work of staff assigned at all sites. Handles grievances within the unit. Plans and provides for staff development of personnel within the library system.

v      Develops and recommends revisions to all library operating procedures.

v      Directs the college's library program in accordance with SPC goals and established policies.

v      Prepares reports and statistical studies relating to the operations and services of the department.

v      Recommends and assists in the procurement of grants for the library system.

v      Serves as administrative contact for statewide library system. Represents the college to outside agencies and other institutions.

v      Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Master's degree in library science. Doctorate's degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Five (5) years supervisory experience in higher education learning resources area.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of the practices and procedures involved in library services. Knowledge of library automated systems and technology. Knowledge of library budgeting and accounting procedures. Knowledge of College library management practices. Knowledge of technical aspects of the library field including cataloging, reference services, technical processing and special areas. Ability to prepare complex statistical reports. Ability to implement and maintain library operating systems and procedures. Ability to maintain good working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the community. Computer and calculator skills. Supervisory skills. Verbal and written communications skills. Mathematics skills.
