BASIC FUNCTION:

Establishes, coordinates and directs all administrative and curatorial aspects of the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Fine Arts. Work is performed under the administrative direction of the President of St. Petersburg Junior College.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides conceptual leadership through the application of specialized knowledge of art, history and/or museum studies.
• Responsible for developing policies and funding of the Museum in cooperation with the Leepa-Rattner Museum Advisory Board.
• Initiates and organizes all planning of major phases in the development of the Museum.
• Directs research activities of the Museum regarding the permanent collection, the archives, the building of the Museum, future clientele, and publications about the collection and the Museum.
• Directs the location and possible acquisition of the paintings of Abraham Rattner and/or his contemporaries and of Allen Leepa and/or his contemporaries.
• Manages the registration, conservation and preservation of the permanent collection.
• Develops, implements and monitors the Museum budget.
• Plans and manages touring exhibitions, both incoming and outgoing.
• Directs the design and implementation of all educational activities of the Museum, including the work of volunteers.
• Coordinates college and public awareness in realizing the objectives and goals of the Museum.
• Participates in the implementation of a Museum Studies Program at the college.
• Performs related duties as required.

Master’s degree in Art, Art History and/or museum studies. Course work and evidence of participation in museum management and administration is required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Three (3) years experience in a museum or a related cultural institution including two (2) years experience in management and administration. Experience in a college or university museum with a permanent collection, teaching experience and/or a record of scholarly or creative accomplishments is desirable.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of the practices and methods of managing a museum. Knowledge of college museum goals, policies and expectations. Knowledge of the sources of funding for college museums and art programs. Knowledge of the legal aspects of museum operations. Knowledge of the current and prospective legislation affecting art museums and educational center. Knowledge of public relations techniques and the promotion of the goals of the Museum. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with advisory board members, college faculty, college staff, volunteers and the public. Ability to operate a personal computer. Verbal and written communications skills. Supervisory skills. Office management skills. Interpersonal relations skills.
