The St. Petersburg College Alumni Association annually presents the Outstanding Alumna Award to honor alumni who, through their accomplishments, have made meaningful contributions to their professional fields and to their communities. They are persons who exemplify how best to use and develop the education gained while at SPC and who, as a result, are outstanding representatives among our alumni.
The 2007 Outstanding Alumna award was given to the Hon. Susan F. Schaeffer during the May 7 graduation ceremony at Tropicana Field. She was also inducted into the SPC Hall of Distinction.
Schaeffer, a class of ’62 graduate, studied music at SPC, but went on to pursue a long and distinguished career in law. She graduated first in her class at Stetson University College of Law, and enjoyed a successful career as a public defender and then as a private practice attorney before becoming a judge. She has been on the Pinellas-Pasco circuit bench since 1982, serving as chief justice for six years.
Schaeffer joins the long list of award recipients dating back to 1984. |
