Turn your prior learning into
college credits!
|
Experiential learning is
an advanced placement method helping
people reach academic goals faster. It
is a program designed to assess prior
learning, translate this into college
classroom learning outcomes and
consequently college credits. The
Experiential Learning Office works with
faculty to guide the student through an
assessment process. An individualized
academic plan is developed for
successful completion of his or her
goals. Learning may result from such
activities as work experience,
employment related training programs and
seminars, volunteer work, travel,
military service or intensive self
directed study.
The assessment of
learning shall take place through means
consistent with generally accepted
techniques of measuring college level
learning. The assessment is conducted by
faculty and may involve one or more of
the following: written, oral, or
performance tests; a portfolio which
describes learning and how it is
acquired; interviews with faculty;
evaluation of certificates or licenses;
on-site evaluations; and simulations.
Internal assessment of prior learning
replaces internal/challenge exams and
other methods of evaluating and
crediting prior learning. Credit may be
awarded under this area in a discipline
or program area or areas offered by the
college. Such assessment by faculty
shall certify levels of attainment
consistent with the content and
performance expectations established in
the curriculum of the college for
equivalent courses. Students may not
enroll in courses for the purpose of
evaluation and award of credit for prior
learning.
The program allows
students to use the credit received for
an acceleration mechanism toward their
academic goal and concentrates on
learning activities which will enhance
their previous learning. This enables
students to achieve their educational
goals within a reasonable time.
