Step 1: Define your personality style:
Directions for defining your skills

In this part of Step 1, you will review two lists of work-related skills.  Your job will be to select those skills that you believe describe your strongest work-related abilities, and then list your selections on your printed copy of the Personality Style Profile (Form 1).

Directions:

  1. Print a copy of this checklist.  On your printed copy, check off each step as it is completed to keep a record of your progress through this exercise.

  2. Complete each step in the order presented.  Note: for the hyperlinks found below to work, you must be viewing this checklist online.

Steps

[  ]

[1]  Identify your work-related skills.

When instructed to do so below, visit the website listed to the right.  At this website, review the list of skills presented.  Identify those skills that you believe are your strongest skills, or those that you would like to develop with further training.

List your selections on the reverse side of this checklist.

Note: This website also allows you to identify occupations related to your skill selections.  While you may review this information if you wish, we will use a different approach later in this program to identify possible career options.  In other words, don't spend any time identifying occupations related to your skills at this point in the program.

OK, go ahead and complete this step now, and move to the next step when finished.

[2]  Summarize your skills on the Personality Style Profile (Form 1).

Review the list of skills that you created in the above step.  Select up to six skills that you believe describe your strongest work-related abilities (as currently developed or to be developed in the near future).

List these skills (one per line) on your printed copy of the Personality Style Profile (Form 1) under the Skills section.  Click the sample profile to the right to see how your profile should look.

Consider the following before you describe your skills:

  1. Do not list any skill that you would not be willing to use in a work situation.

  2. Do not list job titles, only skills.

  3. Do not repeat any skill - each line should contain a unique skill.

  4. Feel free to list any skills that you believe are your best skills even if they did not appear on either of the two skill listings above, as long as these skills are among your strongest skills.

When finished with this step, move to the next step below.
