The federal government offers employment in just about
every career field imaginable. For every civilian
career that exists, you can find the same career in the federal government, with
the federal government offering some career opportunities not available in the
civilian world.

list of career options
typically available with the federal government.
Note the following:
This list is known as the
"General Schedule of Occupational Groups and Series," and represents an
overview of the career options available within the federal government.
The General Schedule is
organized into 22 broad Occupational Groups and within each Group you'll
find a list of specific career fields.
Each career field has a
unique number known as the "General Schedule" or "GS" classification.
Example: Correctional Officers are classified as GS-0007. Knowing the
GS classification number of those career fields in which you are interested
will help you later in the federal job hunting process.
