"A teacher affects eternity..."
- Henry Brooks Adams (1838-1918)
American Historian, journalist and novelist
We may not remember the specifics they taught us, but most of us remember our favorite teachers, those who loved us, inspired us and touched us.
Teachers touch lives
They help mold tomorrow’s citizens, parents, mentors, law enforcement officials, politicians, judges, spiritual leaders. That’s their calling – to help others develop, learn and grow. The scope of their influence is incalculable.
Baby Boomer generation teachers to retire in massive numbers
USA Today says Baby Boomer generation teachers are getting ready to retire in massive numbers. According to a story published last month, more than half of all teachers in the U.S. are 50 and older and will become eligible for retirement in the coming decade.
Where will the new teachers come from to replace all those retirees? Some of them will come from St. Petersburg College, which has been working hard to expand its degree offerings for prospective educators.
St. Petersburg College prepares teachers to touch lives
The college will produce about 240 Education graduates this year and expects to expand its education-related programs in the next few years to keep up with demand. It has graduated almost 1,000 education students since spring of 2004.
