POSITION TITLE: Director, Alternative Teacher Preparation Programs

SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P GRADE: C

BASIC FUNCTION:

Develops, coordinates, assesses and expands a collaborative Alternative Teacher Preparation Program in cooperation with school districts located within the service areas of St. Petersburg College. Also develops, coordinates, assesses and expands teacher recertification through St. Petersburg College. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides leadership in orienting prospective participants and school districts to the Alternative Teacher Preparation Program, or to recertification, as appropriate.
• Prepares a strategic plan that includes site-specific goals and action plans.
• Finds already existing or designs appropriate workshops and seminars.
• Oversees the various processes that deliver both alternative preparation and recertification programs.
• Introduces innovative instructional materials and methods.
• Collects and evaluates data to improve the overall performance of both alternative and recertification programs.
• Communicates effectively with all stakeholders.
• Prepares interim, final and special reports.
• assures program excellence so that people, processes and products perform to standards.
• Performs related duties as required.

PhD in Education is preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Five (5) years experience in higher education including experience with Florida alternative certification programs. Previous teaching experience in a public school setting. Possession of a current Florida State Teacher Certification.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of research and current trends in teacher education. Knowledge of alternative teacher certification and recertification programs. Knowledge of education administration. Ability to work effectively with student, faculty, staff and administrators in the program. Ability to exercise a high degree of attention to detail and organization. Supervisory skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Skills in working with groups. Writing and presentations skills including use of technology.
