POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION TITLE: Counselor/Learning Specialist (academic)

DEPARTMENT: Various SITE: Various

SALARY SCHEDULE: Instructional - GRADE: N/A

BASIC FUNCTION:

Primary contact person on campus for students with disabilities. Responsibilities include documentation and evaluation; implementing support services; faculty training; and student strategy training.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Coordinate screenings, walk-ins, and phone inquiries regarding services for individuals with disabilities; provided information regarding documentation of disabilities.

v      Enter and maintain intake and grant data for students with disabilities.

v      Evaluate exiting documentation of disability; administer/interpret appropriate evaluation instruments such as the Woodcock Johnson R; maintain documentation files.

v      Provide faculty information and assistance on accommodations for students with disabilities.

v      Provide consultation services regarding programs and services for students with disabilities to students, parents, faculty and the community.

v      Coordinate services with academic counselors, psychologists, Vocational Rehabilitation and other agencies on behalf of students with disabilities.

v      Conduct/arrange adaptive academic services.

v      Train peer service providers on adaptive academic services.

v      Distribute and track college-owned adaptive equipment.

v      Conduct departmental workshops, tours and other activities.

v      Conduct student support groups in self-advocacy skills and learning strategies, including conducting summer orientation.

v      Complete all reports and evaluations as required by district, state and federal regulations.

v      Perform other duties as required

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Master's degree required, doctorate preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Experience required in working with special populations students, testing, test interpretation and curriculum and equipment adaptations required. Experience in working with postsecondary faculty and students preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of computer applications desirable; evidence of good communication, interpersonal and administrative skills.
