BASIC FUNCTION:
 

A faculty member at SPC has the primary function of instruction, coaching, and student development. Secondary functions include assisting the College in developing and maintaining a quality program of instruction, providing service to the College and continuing professional development.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teaches undergraduate level courses within the College of Education and inspiring
• Is able to inspire students and develop them as future professionals
• Fosters student motivation, learning and achievement
• Designs, analyzes, and improves the elementary education/ESOL curriculum
• Demonstrates both the art and science of teaching
• Maintains appropriate professional liaisons with local, state and national governmental and professional agencies
• Supervises interns and practicum students
• Maintains positive working relationships with co-workers (faculty, staff and administration)
• Supports the mission, vision and values of the College of Education
• Develops and improves on-line courses 
• Advises College of Education students and student organizations
• Assesses the elementary education/ESOL curriculum against state and national standards
• Possesses a thorough understanding of state, national and professional standards, and appropriate assessment strategies, including ESOL
• Facilitates active programs of professional development with area K-12 teachers
• Promotes academic excellence and scholarship within the College of Education
• Participates in grant writing and acquisition of external funding for the COE
• Serves on various college committees
• Works flexible days/evenings/hours with willingness to travel to surrounding counties/campuses
• Mentors new faculty

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Doctorate (strongly preferred) or PhD candidate that has an approved proposal and is expecting to complete his/her PhD within one year or Masters Degree; in elementary education (eg., curriculum instruction, reading, ESOL, elementary math/science, elementary language arts).

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
 

Experience in college/university teaching, a current valid state-issued teaching license and a minimum of three years of continuous full time teaching K-6 students. Familiarity and experience with collaborative, inclusionary programs is expected.
 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

A distinguished record of excellence in professional or teaching career.   Proven ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders throughout the educational continuum.  Strong written and oral communications skills; computer skills; assessment expertise.
