POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Systems AnalystAcademic Systems

DEPARTMENT: Information Systems SITE: SEM

SALARY SCHEDULE: Technical GRADE: 4

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provides analysis, design, configuration, testing, implementation, documentation and staff training for software that includes or supports operating systems, file and application servers, databases and network environments as it applies to Academic Information Systems. Essential job functions also include all tasks assigned to the Analyst/Programmer classification.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Performs analysis, design and user support to the implementation and maintenance of Online based Academic Information systems and associated Internet Infrastructure.

v      Interface with other college departments, students and faculty to provide problem resolution and technical support for critical academic systems.

v      Performs planning and budget management for the system.

v      On Call 24 Hours a day, 7 days a week. Must carry Cell phone or be available by standard phone.

v      Functions as server administrator in the analysis, design, implementation and user training for the various systems.

v      Develops policies and procedures related to the security of assigned academic systems. Participates in planning and testing of the college's disaster recovery plan for computing services.

v      Works with all levels of college personnel in the analysis of computing needs.

v      Writes computer programs and applications according to specifications, employing the use of programming languages and/or software packages available at the college.

v      Documents these programs to enable departmental staff to continue computer support to the related systems.

v      Engages in the appropriate testing of computer systems.

v      Participates in the development of user and operational documentation.

v      Participates in providing user training about academic computer systems.

v      Engages in the continual maintenance and support of development environments of Academic Systems.

v      Works as necessary in the maintenance of system software for any of the college’s mainframe, mini, and/or microcomputers.

v      Participates as directed in support of Data Communications networks.

v      Works as directed in the continual effort to employ effectively emerging technologies in support of college needs.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Three (3) years systems administration experience, to include systems software, network (LAN and WAN), database administration experience. One (1) year administering Linux or Unix, Windows NT/2000 in an enterprise/production environment. Experience configuring Apache and Internet Information Server (IIS) in a production environment.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of WebCT, Academic Systems, Netmeeting and other academic based systems. Knowledge of database/file server design and administration including knowledge of Oracle and Microsoft SQL. Knowledge of Weblogic middleware and Peoplesoft a plus. Proficiency in using shell scripting and Perl preferred. Knowledge of PHP, C and C++ programming is a plus. Skill in PC/file server/application server implementation including Intel based server hardware and backup peripherials and software. Skill in functional and system design. Ability to work with a minimum of supervision. Skills in project management. Ability to function as a lead worker over other technical staff. High level of verbal and written communications skills.
