POSITION TITLE: Technology Design Specialist

BASIC FUNCTION:
Exercises high-level technical skills to design and distribute a variety of web, multimedia and interactive/dynamic products for instructional and student services purposes.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Maintains positive working relationships with faculty, staff and administration.
- Participates in the process of establishing academic hardware and software standards.
- Enhances technical skills that apply to multimedia development and the Internet with respect to education.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Works within one of the following focused functions:
Graphics Focus
Supports use of screen capturing, 3D animation, video, online web conferencing and application sharing.
Adds technology enhancements (i.e., audio, video and animation) to online, blended and courses utilizing the most current software products & programming techniques.
Captures, edits, and produces digital audio and video.
Designs and develops multimedia presentations for courses, conferences and seminars utilizing various multimedia software.
Develops computer-based learning objects to enhance classroom/online learning.
Operates and evaluates a variety of computer hardware, peripherals, software, and audio/video equipment.
Programming Focus
Designs and automates processes to improve the speed and efficiency of online content and transaction processing.
Works with all levels of college personnel in the analysis and design of web-based systems for instruction, student and staff support.
Works to web-enable transaction processing systems, database systems, interactive online systems, college art, image and document collections and other systems used by students, faculty and staff.
Works as directed in the continual effort to employ effectively emerging web-based technologies in support of college needs.
Provides high-level technical support, troubleshooting, and demonstrations for faculty and staff regarding hardware, software, and web related difficulties to ensure problem resolution.
Creates and updates both user and technical documentation
Layout/Design Focus
Teams with Instructional Technologists in developing materials to enhance the delivery of face-to-face, blended and online instruction using the most current and universally accessible methods.
Works closely with technical, artistic, and editorial and instructional staff of the college to develop and maintain a cohesive and consistent web-based system of college services and information on the web.
Consults with staff, researches and evaluates new technological innovations that ease multimedia development and improve the effectiveness of web-based content.
Develops web pages, graphics, and presentations for educational purposes.
Completion of two (2) years of college in an area of technology design or equivalent training including a technology-based certificate. Bachelor's preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Two (2) years computer experience,
programming for web-based systems, designing databases, producing websites,
graphics, and desktop audio/video. Prior development experience in multimedia
design, web design and application software.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Broad-based knowledge and skill in industry standard software applications and/or languages used in multimedia and web-based development. Proficiency using web resources for research and daily navigation online. Knowledge of creating desktop audio, video and/or streaming media. Advanced knowledge of HTML and capability of developing educational materials with it. Training/education in effective database and systems design. Ability to learn new cutting edge technologies and programming languages and apply that knowledge to revolutionary design and development. Interpersonal skills that include working well in a team environment, patience, and tactful courtesy to faculty and staff learning technology.
