TITLE: ARCHIVIST
DEPARTMENT: Library
SITE: EpiCenter
SALARY

BASIC FUNCTION:
Manages the acquisition, processing, arrangement, description,
preservation, and accessibility of college records of enduring value and
special collections housed in the College facilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establishes archival policy
standards for the special collections under the supervision of the Library
Director.
- Analyzes and appraises items
to determine value to the collection.
- Coordinates workflow procedures
for processing the collection, supervising assistants and volunteers.
- Classifies and catalogs
books, papers, special collections, and electronic resources using both
manual and automated systems.
- Assesses customer needs and
prepares comprehensive finding aids.
- Plans, coordinates, and
evaluates public awareness materials, events, programs, tours, and
classes.
- Prepares clear and concise
reports and maintains accurate records and statistics.
- Monitors the developments in
the library and archival professions, applying new technologies applicable
to archival operations.
- Establishes and maintains
effective working relationships with College departments, library staff,
volunteers, and community groups.
- Prepares grant applications.
- Works collaboratively with
campus library staff and faculty to promote and educate materials in the
collections.
- Demonstrates an awareness and
appreciation of the cultural diversity of the community.
- Communicates effectively with
people from various backgrounds, both individually and in groups.
- Performs related duties as
required.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s
degree from ALA
accredited program with course work or concentration in archival procedures,
management, and preservation required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Two years
experience in archives collection processing and management preferred. Experience with automated
storage and retrieval systems, electronic records, database design/management,
and electronic publication.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL
REQUIREMENT:
Knowledge
of collection development
principles for archival and local history management. Knowledge of principles and practices of archival cataloging,
preservation, and organization. Knowledge of reference
sources and research techniques in archival materials using print and
electronic resources. Ability to work in environment
containing archival materials. Knowledge of grant and report-writing techniques. Ability to represent the College in meetings with citizens, special
interest groups, and dignitaries.
Evidence of considerable interpersonal, organizational, and oral and
written communication skills.
