POSITION TITLE: Career
Development Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Career

SITE: St.
Petersburg/Gibbs Campus
SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P

BASIC FUNCTION:
Manages and executes counseling
functions in the Career Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conducts counseling sessions
with students to facilitate student career planning and decision making
regarding selection of an academic major.

Demonstrates leadership in serving
as a career and job placement coordinator for St. Petersburg College/Gibbs
Campus.

Facilitates Career Center activities
and services on St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus.
-
Manages the Career Center and
related staff members at the St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus.
-
Conducts career testing and
interprets test results for students.
-
Facilitates Cooperative Education
Program for the St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus.
-
Facilitates the Experiential
Learning Program for St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus students.
-
Manages internship experiences
for students working in local businesses.
-
Develops, schedules and conducts
career workshops for students including resume writing, interviewing, and
methods of conducting a job search.

Maintain the web site for the
St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus Career Center.

Assists with job placement tracking
for student completers.

Maintains a local business contact
list and current job opening information in order to assist students with
job placement.

Conveys accurate and current
academic and career information to students, faculty and staff.

Demonstrates leadership as a
student advocate and consultant to faculty and staff

Maintains currency in the counseling
profession and demonstrates mature, professional judgments.

Understands and appreciates
individual and cultural diversity.
-
Follows federal, state, college
and departmental guidelines that relate to the job.

Promotes positive public relations
for the department and the institution.

Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Counseling,
Business or a related field, or a Master’s degree including 18 graduate hours in
counseling.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Two years of counseling experience
in a postsecondary institution. Experience in career counseling, human
relations, or vocational placement preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL
REQUIREMENTS:
Strong written and oral communications
skills. Computer skills. Ability to understand and use available technology,
materials, and tools related to the job. Ability to communicate effectively
and regularly with students, faculty and staff.
