POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: College Engineer                              

DEPARTMENT: Facilities Planning & Institutional Services      SITE: DO

SALARY SCHEDULE: APM                                                       GRADE: C

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provides professional services in the areas of structural engineering and performs project coordination on college construction projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs structural design services in conjunction with various College construction, renovation and remodeling projects including design, inspections, investigations, reporting and etc.
  • Assists Director of Design and Construction in the preparation of construction documents and providing management services for in-house projects.
  • Coordinates with engineering and architectural firms in the development of bidding documents.
  • Acts as liaison between College and architectural/engineering firms during construction.    
  • Inspects progress during construction and expedites corrective action through supervision.
  • Attends meetings, reviews pay requests, keeps log of construction progress.
  • Provides Plan Reviews for Code and Design Guidelines compliance.
  • Provides On-Site Inspections for Code Compliance.
  • Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Ten (10) years experience in related engineering work or six (6) years experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering. Applicants must be registered and currently licensed by the State of Florida.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of structural design services needed for building construction. Knowledge of construction methods and practices. Knowledge of State Requirements for Educational Facilities. Ability to read blueprints and interpret construction contract documents. Verbal and written communications skills. Ability to maintain working relationships with contractors, consultants and staff. Must be able to climb ladders and perform inspections on all construction sites.
