POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Coordinator, International Language Institute

DEPARTMENT: Corporate Training                   SITE: Various

SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P                                GRADE:   A

BASIC FUNCTION:

Responsible for designing and implementing a Language Institute at SPC which may involve identifying current SPC classes and programs applicable to the Language Institute, collaborating with area businesses to determine language education needs, identifying additional classes and programs not currently offered at SPC, designing Institute goals, developing and distributing marketing materials to gain student interest and increase program enrollment. This program is designed to be a self-sustaining business unit of St. Petersburg College Corporate Training.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Assesses, develops, and re-tools SPC’s current non-credit language and culture training programs and offerings.

·         Determines which SPC programs and offerings should be continued, enhanced, expanded, or jettisoned.

·         Creates and instructs additional programs and course offerings for the International Language Institute.

·         Works with the Curriculum Designer to select talent to create and identify new language and culture programs/offerings.

·         Develops and updates a business plan that will include a marketing plan. This will include a P&L and a SWOT analysis that will demonstrate a self-sustaining business unit.

·         Serves in the community as SPC Language Institute ambassador and conducts community outreach to local-area companies to assess demand for Language Institute instruction, and coordinates related follow-up action plans.

·         Coordinates record keeping, reporting evaluation and financial matters of the Language Institute. Tracks, monitors and prepares required reports and records including payroll time sheets, attendance records and disciplinary records.

·         Develops and implements policies and procedures for the Language Institute.

·         Maintains or supervises the maintenance of databases to track student progress.

·         Maintains the Language Institute course files (content and objectives).

·         Supervises activities of staff employed to present the courses or those who assist in the various aspects of the Language Institute. Recruits, hires and schedules instructors necessary to maintain the classes offered.

·         Works with International Programs Director to recruit Visa students and campus map centers to recruit qualifying students to the International Language Institute.

·         Participates in recruitment and retention activities.

·         Counsels and advises participants regarding their progress and provides assistance in areas related to the goals of the Language Institute.

·         Coordinates a learning support center or similar instructional situation. Functions as liaison between students, faculty, and administration.

·         Ensures proper qualifying of instructors and credentialing and maintains all required documentation.

·         Performs related duties as required.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Language, Linguistics or related field preferred. Master’s preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Three (3) years of related administrative or teaching experience. Prefer experience working with people with different levels of language experience and skills; experience living and/or working abroad, or extensive experience traveling abroad; community relations and foreign language teaching experience.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of the procedures and practices involved in operating a college wide program. Knowledge of post secondary education and community needs. Knowledge of the procedures used in instructing students. Knowledge of the process involved in developing and implementing a grant. Ability to work with students and faculty. Ability to develop and implement Language Institute goals and objectives. Ability to relate to the participants of the Language Institute and provide advice concerning their progress in the program. Ability to make presentations to business representatives and to the community. Supervisory skills. Written and verbal communications skills. Computer skills.
