Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Director, Accounting Services

BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for the preparation and integrity of all general accounting records and related financial reports. Ensures that appropriate internal controls are maintained. Supervises Accounting Office, including Accounts Payable, Restricted Accounting, and Internal Compliance. Performs responsible, advanced, and complex work in supervising a major operating section.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide managerial support in assigned areas, including banking, investments and depository contracts and debt management.
Participate in preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
Review external/internal audit recommendations in relation to financial statements, contracts and grants, and other assigned areas and make necessary changes and recommendations, as well as provide additional reports as required.
Review reports to external agencies prepared in the Business Office, including All Funds Expenditure Reports.
Assist in formulating and developing financial policies and procedures.
Implement and maintain internal control procedures to ensure the safeguarding of assets and reliability of accounting data, and to promote operational efficiency and encourage adherence to prescribed College policies and procedures.
Review, approve, and prioritize all upgrades, modifications and enhancements in the Business Office computer systems.
Review all journal transactions, approve online journal entries prepared by others and coordinate with Budget office for appropriate budget control authorization.
Assist in the development and review of the Business Services operating budget.
Supervise key personnel within assigned areas including selection, evaluation and workflow planning, deadlines, work objectives, time utilization, problem solving, training and staff development.
Coordinate month-end closing process and the year-end closing process and audit. Review accounting reports for completeness and accuracy. Review monthly reconciliations ensuring that all adjustments are recorded properly.
Prepare monthly Summary of Current Funds, Revenues and Expenditures for Board meeting.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related programs.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Four (4) years related experience in responsible administrative or accounting position, including three (2) years supervisory experience.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of the programs, procedures, and operations of the unit to which assigned. Knowledge of overall college programs and operations. Knowledge of office administrative procedures and practices. Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials modules and other computer applications relating to the area of work assignment. Verbal and written communications and management skills.
