BASIC FUNCTION:
Plans,
organizes, staffs and directs the operations of seven (7) major campuses and
seven (7) minor sites, encompassing 168 facilities with over 2 million square
feet of space and 434 acres of property. Oversees all custodial services, fleet
services, inventory, landscaping, mail and receiving, maintenance, non-current
records, security and warehouse functions. Supervises a staff of 170 personnel,
with six (6) direct supervisors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares the Annual Unit Plan (Budget) to cover all funding requirements for
all materials, supplies, personnel, equipment and utilities for a budget in
excess of $10 million and 70 departments.

Overseas the use of manual and/or computerized maintenance management
systems.

Aides in recruiting and interviewing personnel. Recommends hiring
personnel.

Monitors all operational activities of the Facilities Services Department.

Develops policies, rules and procedures for Board of Trustees review and
approval.

Consults with architects, engineers and college department Program Directors
and campus Provosts concerning maintenance and operations of each site.

Directs and implements training programs for all Facilities Staff.

Ensures the Preventative Maintenance Program is carried out in all areas of
Facilities Services.

Assist with Rental of Facilities college-wide.

Directs the preparation of graduation setup and teardown.

Evaluates personnel under direct supervision and reviews all evaluations in
Facilities Services.

Prepares reports and communications relating to the Facilities Services
Department to include Mid-Year and Annual Reports.

Participates in and implements recycling and energy program initiatives.

Recommends disciplinary actions and wage increases.

Assist the Director of Facilities Planning and Institutional Services as
assigned.

Responsible for added duties assigned by the Director.

Works directly with Safety and Environmental Department and other
safety-related issues.

Responsible for directing Emergency Operations when needed for preparation,
damage assessment and recovery operations.

Responsible for Total Quality Management and Team Building for all areas of
Facilities Services.

Oversees the tracking of all utility billing to minimize energy consumption.

Perform related duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field, plus specialized courses in
mechanical, electrical or civil engineering.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Five
(5) years experience supervising facilities maintenance operations with a
minimum of two (2) years at the supervisory level, preferably with a higher
education institution.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of the operations of college facilities. Knowledge of the budgeting
process. Through understanding of both manual and computerized maintenance
management systems. Ability to plan and supervise the work of large facilities
support staff. Interpersonal skills. Knowledge of ADA and energy management
concepts. Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish and
maintain working relationships with college administrators, staff, and outside
agencies. Computer skills.
