POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Director, Public Safety Academies

DEPARTMENT: Law Enforcement/Fire Science Academies  SITE: AC

SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P - GRADE: C

BASIC FUNCTION:

Researches and develops new program opportunities in Public Safety Academy areas based on training needs of local and statewide public safety agencies. Ensures compliance with all certification requirements imposed by state regulatory agencies. Responsibilities include the hiring, training, managing and supervising of all faculties and the coordinating of all aspects of the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred. Advanced Education or other training in Public Safety.  

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Five years industry experience in a Public Safety field or related management area is required. Previous certification as a Public Safety Professional. Familiarity and understanding of the State Regulatory and Administrative Certification Rules. Practical experience in the management and supervision of a Public Safety Academy.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Written and verbal communications skills. Practical experience and knowledge of Public Safety field. Knowledge of training methodologies in an Academy setting. Ability and skill to interact with industry executives and their staff. Ability to communicate and supervise academy students. Ability to communicate and interact with State Certification Authority. Knowledge and experience in management of state mandated curriculum.
