POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION TITLE: Head Coach  

 

DEPARTMENT: Athletics                      SITE: Various

 

SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P                    GRADE: A

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Provides leadership, supervision, and coaching to an intercollegiate athletic team of the College.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Supervises and coaches at intercollegiate competition as appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with all required FCCAA and NJCAA rules and regulations. 
  • Directs training and practice program(s) for the team(s). 
  • Teaches skills and strategies for use in competition. 
  • Recruits athletes for college team(s). 
  • Supervises athletic facilities and equipment for specific sport assigned. 
  • Scouts opponents when appropriate. 
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate team conduct. 
  • Keeps individual and team statistics and records as required. 
  • Supervises the academic progress of team members, and arranges for special assistance necessary to improve the likelihood of students' academic/career success. 
  • Develops schedules and support budget recommendations within guidelines. 
  • Makes travel arrangements for team within available resources. 
  • Develops an informational relationship with the Institutional Advancement office. 
  • Drives college vehicles to and from activities as needed. 
  • Attends college and associated meetings as required. 
  • Advises students concerning the choice of academic courses to meet their goals.
  • Refers students to counselor for any problem which needs to be examined other than academic, such as vocational testing, personal counseling, etc.
  • Assists students in registration process.
  • Fosters academic excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Supports the community college philosophy through commitment to success of students with diverse goals, backgrounds, and learning styles.
  • Serves the college through any of the following: (a) committee membership, (b) curriculum development, (c) development of innovative instruction, (d) sponsorship of student organizations, (e) representation of the college in professionally related community activities, and (f) special projects.
  • Supports college extracurricular functions.
  • Maintains currency in teaching field(s) through professional development and scholarly activities.
  • Demonstrates a professional, cooperative and considerate attitude toward students, colleagues and staff.
  • Performs related duties as required.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Master's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Successful professional, college and high school coaching background required.

 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Considerable knowledge of the type of sport assigned. Ability to coach and lead a team. Leadership skills and mentoring ability a must. Written and oral communication skills. Computer skills.
