BASIC FUNCTION:
Provides leadership for the acquisition, licensing and access systems for library materials in all formats, including monographs, serials, multimedia and electronic resources as well as oversight of the technical services unit. This position reports to the Director of Libraries and is a member of the Director’s Council, the libraries’ administrative team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise and provide training for
staff employees
Assume a lead role in allocation,
recommendation and regular monitoring of multiple materials budgets
Oversee acquisition, licensing and
access systems for library materials in all formats
Oversee technical services including
copy, original and serials cataloging
Assume a lead role in acquiring
electronic resources, license negotiation and compliance, and access issues
Develop priorities and analyze
workflow to improve services
Lead process for gathering and
analyzing usage data for subscription databases and electronic journals
Work in close collaboration with
liaison librarians and library administrative unit to plan and shape services
and collections
Coordinate and manage the data
collection and reporting of information and statistics to internal and external
agencies
Communicate with vendors and
publishers on a regular basis, often to resolve accounting related issues
Work closely with the Director on
planning, policymaking and assessment for the Libraries and associated reporting
documents
Represent the Director at
college-wide, regional and state committee meetings
Participate on college-wide library
committees and projects
Work with related college
departments including purchasing and accounts payable
EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Masters
Degree in Library Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
5 or more years demonstrated successful managerial and
supervisory experience equivalent to at least a department head level with the
ability to motivate and lead staff through organizational change.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL
REQUIREMENTS:
Extensive knowledge of current practices, issues and trends in technical services, acquisitions, licensing and managing access to resources. Advanced knowledge of acquisitions, serials and cataloging modules in Aleph (Ex Libris) library management system. Knowledge of current and emerging technologies and ability to apply these technologies to a diverse range of library applications. Demonstrated leadership ability, analytical skills, computer software proficiency, creative and innovative problem-solving abilities. Superior written and oral communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Strong project management, accounting and financial management skills. Strong negotiation skills and ability to work with a broad range of vendors and consortia. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially in a rapidly changing environment across a geographically diverse institution. Strong commitment to service excellence. Demonstrated commitment to the profession through active membership in professional organizations. Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
