POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE:
Program Director I, Campus Library
DEPARTMENT:
Academic & Student Affairs SITE: Various
SALARY SCHEDULE:
A&P - GRADE: C
BASIC FUNCTION:
Plans and
directs a specific department, discipline, and/or program(s): campus
library’s operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops, prepares, and updates library
programs and
services at a single site.

Participates in reference and instruction duties.

Communicates with the
Director of
Libraries and library
faculty regarding program policies,
procedures, and personnel matters. Develops schedule of library
research instructions including LIS courses, classroom instructions, reference
coverage, and program liaison coverage.

Assists with
hiring, training, evaluation and management of the work performance of faculty
and staff under his/her supervision in accordance with college rules, policies
and procedures.

Controls
equipment/materials utilized within the program.

Handles grievances
within department as required.

Assists in
implementation of in-service training programs for faculty.

Serves as active
member of campus leadership teams.

Assists the
Director of Libraries regarding budget matters for the specific program area.

Interacts with
external industries, businesses, and professional groups on behalf of the
college.

Assists with the
hiring and credentialing of instructors in accordance with college rules and
policies.

Responsible for
administering the library management system provided by the state via the
College Center for Library Automation (CCLA). Responsible for collection of
data provided by the LMS for purposes of program analysis and furnishing of
data for reports required by internal and external agencies.

Performs related
duties required for the administration and management of the academic program
as required or assigned by
Director of Libraries,
Sr. VP
and/or President (includes functions which may vary from one
campus
to another
such as internal and/or external committees, labs, accreditation etc. other
functions determined necessary for successful management of the program).
EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Master's
degree from ALA
accredited program. Must be able to be credentialed
in the area he/she supervises.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum
2 years professional
experience in academic libraries. Supervisory experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of
and ability to apply computer applications for increased administrative
efficiency and productivity.
Knowledge of library
management systems, electronic resources and services and emerging trends in
library services and technologies. Evidence of exemplary collaborative work
with discipline faculty and related student support units. Evidence of
supervisory skills. Strong public service commitment and excellent written and
oral communication skills. Assignment at some sites may require specialized
subject knowledge, e.g. medical, legal or business librarianship.
