POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Senior Accountant
DEPARTMENT: Business Services SITE: DO
SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P GRADE: B
BASIC FUNCTION:
Provides professional accounting support in the college Business Services operations department including maintenance and balancing of the general ledger accounts of the college, cash and treasury management, internal controls, training and maintenance of the automated financial system, and preparation of financial reports.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the Director of Accounting Services in directing and supervising the financial and business affairs of the college
Serves as the PeopleSoft Financial Systems Lead for the department
Assists in the coordination and the activities of the general accounting area and evaluates the performance of assigned staff
Assists the Director of Accounting Services in ensuring college compliance with the State accounting and reporting directives and GASB reporting requirements
Participates in the reconciliation of all college bank accounts
Assists in the preparation of the annual financial report, cost analysis report, pre-audit functions and other accounting projects as required
Performs or oversees the maintenance of accounting journals, ledgers, records and financial system chartfield additions or changes
Coordinates the monthly and year end closing of the college books including accrual adjustments, analysis of accounts and closing entries
Provides the Director and Associate Vice President with reports, analysis, and data as required
Maintains viable internal controls and balances for the college funds as required by law
Assists the Director in coordinating the annual audit by the State of Florida Auditor General’s audit staff
Assists with the coordination and provision of fiscal rules, procedures, internal controls and end-user training on the financial system to college staff
Performs related duties as required
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA preferred. Prefer experience with the functional and/or technical requirements of financial enterprise systems (PeopleSoft preferred)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Three (3) years experience in higher education or public accounting
Knowledge of fund accounting, business, budget and financial processes and practices. Planning/organizational skills. Research and analytical skills. Proficiency in use of personal computer software and financial database software. Interpersonal/human relations skills. Verbal and written communication skills.
