POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Coordinator, International Language Institute

DEPARTMENT: Various                                    SITE: Various

SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P                                  GRADE:   C

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Coordinator will be responsible for designing and implementing a Language Institute at SPC which may involve identifying current SPC classes and programs applicable to the Language Institute, collaborating with area businesses to determine language education needs, identifying additional classes and programs not currently offered at SPC, designing Institute goals, developing and distributing marketing materials to gain student interest and increase program enrollment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Assessing SPC’s current non-credit language and culture training programs and offerings.

·         Conducting informal needs assessment in order to identify which SPC programs and offerings should be continued, enhanced, expanded, etc.

·         Proposing additional programs and offerings.

·         Getting to know SPC personnel in these areas in order to enlist them for their talents and support in launching the Language Institute.

·         Identifying talent for creating identified new language and culture programs and offerings, with preference for in-house personnel.

·         Proposing realistic marketing plan, with emphasis on using current SPC outreach activity as the starting place.

·         Serving in the community as SPC Language Institute ambassador and conducting community outreach to local-area companies to assess demand for Language Institute instruction, and coordinate related follow-up.

·         Coordinating record keeping, reporting evaluation and financial matters of the Language Institute. Tracking, monitoring and preparing required reports and records including payroll time sheets, attendance records and disciplinary records.

·         Developing and implementing policies and procedures for the Language Institute.

·         Maintaining or supervising the maintenance of database to track student progress.

·         Maintaining the Language Institute course files (content and objectives).

·         Supervising activities of staff employed to present the courses or those who assist in the various aspects of the Language Institute. Recruiting, hiring and scheduling instructors necessary to maintain the classes offered.

·         Participating in recruitment and retention activities.

·         Counseling and advising participants regarding their progress and providing assistance in areas related to the goals of the Language Institute.

·         May be responsible for coordinating a learning support center or similar instructional situation. Functions as liaison between students and faculty.

·         Ensures proper qualifying of instructors and maintains all required documentation.

·         Performs related duties as required.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Language, Linguistics or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum 5 years of administrative or teaching experience. Prefer 3-5 years experience working with people with different levels of language experience and skills; experience living and/or working abroad, or extensive experience traveling abroad; Community relations and foreign language teaching experience.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of the procedures and practices involved in the beginning a college wide program. Knowledge of post secondary education and community needs. Knowledge of the procedures used in instructing students. Knowledge of the process involved in developing and implementing a grant. Ability to work with students and faculty. Ability to develop and implement Language Institute goals and objectives. Ability to relate to the participants of the Language Institute and provide advice concerning their progress in the program. Ability to make presentations to business representatives and to the community. Supervisory skills. Written and verbal communications skills. Computer skills.
