St. Petersburg College offers a Voluntary Disability Program underwritten by Union Security Insurance Company, providing two types of disability coverage: Short duration disability program of 5 years accident/2 years sickness, or Long duration disability program to Social Security Normal Retirement Age (SSNRA).  The college does not pay for any portion of the disability coverage due to the coverage being optional.  A new employee can apply for up to $3,000 monthly benefit, not to exceed 60% of their salary, without questions or evidence of insurability.

Deductions for this coverage are available under the Flexible Benefits Plan. If disability insurance is paid with pre-tax dollars, the disability benefit is then taxable.
