POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Audio-visual Support Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Information Systems                   SITE: College wide

SALARY SCHEDULE: Technical                               GRADE: 2

BASIC FUNCTION:

Coordinates campus, classroom and administrative audio visual (AV) systems and operations college-wide. Supports and facilitates design, oversees selection and purchase of equipment, and facilitates repair and maintenance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Works with academic and administrative departments and staff collegewide to facilitate the definition of requirements for AV systems and related peripherals.

·         Supports and facilitates the design of AV systems, including projectors, screens, media source devices, centralized integration systems, monitoring systems and peripherals.

·         Works with audio-visual equipment in classrooms, lecture theatres and meeting rooms including PCs with connection to the network, LCD projectors and screens.

·         May work to support events (including some nights and weekends- as assigned in advance ) including pre-event checks and ensuring a technician is in attendance during the event when requested.

·         Advises on the selection, purchase and installation of AV equipment for types A, B, and C classrooms, auditoriums, and spaces.

·         Facilitates the repair, servicing, and maintenance of classroom audiovisual equipment including projectors, cameras and other educational equipment.

·         Coordinates and supervises audiovisual-related work done by campus TRS staff.

·         Coordinates, develops, implements and maintains college-wide AV equipment standards and procedures.

·         Supervises the inventory records and locations of audiovisual equipment and coordinates with Facilities Inventory staff.

·         Consults with and trains faculty and staff in the selection and use of audiovisual equipment.

·         Provides audiovisual-related training for TRS staff.

·         Performs related duties as required.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Associates degree or equivalent combination of formal network training and work experience in engineering, electronics or related fields or equivalent experience in audiovisual design, implementation, support and instruction.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Four (4) years experience in AV equipment operations and services in an educational setting including repair and maintenance of audiovisual equipment, including two years experience in programming centralized AV control systems, sound systems, and monitoring systems.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of operations and procedures of audiovisual equipment in an educational institution. Knowledge of selection, purchase, and use of electronic audiovisual equipment such as Polycom video conferencing and Crestron control systems. Knowledge of AV system programming.  Knowledge of the instructional uses of  AV equipment. Ability to coordinate AV equipment with computer equipment. Ability to maintain records. Excellent Customer Service Skills. Willingness to learn, exceeding customer expectations, solid work ethic. Must have a great deal of mobility because of the walking, driving, lifting, carrying, standing, crouching (all for long periods of time). Math, English and Communications skills.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The position requires extensive AV and computer work, both software and hardware, for extended periods of time. This position also requires the ability to lift hardware and equipment that weighs a minimum of 25-30 pounds; must be able to use small intricate tools for the purpose of computer repair and installation. This position also requires the differentiation of colors, shapes, and symbols as needed for working with machinery, computer hardware, and certain software applications.
