POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Information Technology Generalist
DEPARTMENT: Administrative Information Systems SITE: SE
SALARY SCHEDULE: Technical GRADE: 2
BASIC FUNCTION:
Provides college-wide
training and guidance to TRS staff, initiating pilot projects for potential new
classroom and office desktop solutions. Proactive in leading the TRS
staff to improve and standardize TR practices and processes college-wide. Manages
the college-wide Anti-Virus product, and the configuration of the college's
Dell Premiere page. Performs information systems
administrative procedures and maintains documentation that covers two or more
functional areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides direction with regard to the college's Dell
Premier page, making sure the standard configurations meet the college's needs,
and looking for cost-efficiencies by eliminating unwanted features
Helps to define hardware/software configurations for new
classroom and office desktop pilots, taking direction from the management
chain, and taking into account inputs from the college TRS staff
Presents on topics of college-wide impact or interest, and
arrange for additional in-house or outside speakers as needed, either in a
college-wide ETSAG and TRS setting or at a meeting focused on needs specific to
a particular campus
Acts as a support resource for the TRS staff, promoting best
practices across the college
Communicates and promotes adherence to license agreements for
all software used in the college, especially but not limited to the
college-wide software
Maintains a SharePoint site for information sharing among the
technical staff
Identifies areas in which additional technical knowledge is needed by the TRS staff and provides overviews, and makes arrangements for presentations by outside technical experts as needed.
Independently researches licensing options for software needed
to support college-wide efforts.
Manages the college-wide Anti-Virus program formerly managed
by an NTSS-level member of the networking department, providing direction to
the help desk and TRS staff, and identifying when outside consultants are
needed.
Communicates regularly with the TRS and NTSS staff to help
maintain best practices college-wide.
Communicate regularly with vendors such as Dell, Microsoft,
and Adobe, and with resellers to obtain information and to negotiate licensing
that supports the college's needs.
Identify alternatives, where applicable, to departmental
software requests in order to meet the needs of the requesting department.
Assist in establishing the college-wide software budget each
year.
Assist in defining the college's Technology Roadmap.
Plan pilot projects for potential new classroom and office
desktop configurations.
Identify ways to improve the college's desktop support
processes, and to streamline desktop configuration and maintenance.
Identify new software that might better serve the needs of
the college, and to to innovative in specifying and licensing software for the
college.
Constantly look for creative new ways to use the software to
increase communication, productivity and user satisfaction across the college.
Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of
an acceptable equivalency diploma. Associates
degree in technical field or equivalent work experience preferred. Microsoft
MCSA/MCSE coursework or equivalent coursework/experience,
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Four (4) years experience with computer operating systems
and software applications used by the college. Experience in the preparation and use of
databases and software and hardware installation. experience in a
desktop support setting
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of appropriate computer hardware and software. Knowledge of computer network concepts. Familiarity with DOS/Windows, Macintosh and Linux operating systems
and related software applications. Knowledge of the specialized software
used at the work location. Ability to install and maintain a
variety of computer hardware and software. Skill in
reading comprehension. Knowledge of basic mathematics.
Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems.
Written and verbal communications skills. Ability to
establish good working relationships with faculty and staff. Interpersonal skills.
Experience with and understanding of Microsoft desktop and server OS, Apple OS, and Unix/Linux
variants in a networked environment. Experience with preparation and use of
databases, especially Microsoft SQL Server and Access. Knowledge of the
software and hardware used at SPC.
