Loan Request Process

Below is the Federal Stafford Loan Process at SPC. Before we can receive funds and disburse them to you, you must:

You must be enrolled at least half time (six credit hours).

  1. Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for each academic year. www.fafsa.ed.gov (SPC Federal School Code is 001528.)
  2. Complete the Online Entrance Counseling (First Time SPC Borrowers Only)
  3. THIS STEP IS NOT YOUR LOAN APPLICATION, this is meant to help you choose which lender you wish to use. Review Recommended Lender List to decide which lender you will use.

      • Go to our Recommended Lender List to review the lenders.
      • The lenders on our list are recommended because they successfully utilize our electronic processing procedures to speed the delivery of loan proceeds to you.
      • If you choose a lender not on our list, please provide us with the lender's 6 digit lender code.
  4. Request a loan by completing the form for the semester/year you wish to receive loan funds.

  5. After your loan has been awarded you must complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN). Our Recommended lenders offer electronic MPN's that can be completed from links on our Recommended Lender List. If you have chosen a lender that is not on our list it is your responsibility to make arrangements to complete the MPN with them

*If you choose a new lender for a future term or year you will need to complete a new MPN and will eventually have to make two separate student loan payments. It is highly recommended to use the same lender for your entire length of study.

Loan Reduction

After your loan is awarded and visible on My SPC, if your circumstances change you can reduce your loan by submitting the loan reduction request. Only submit this form if you wish to lower your student loan award amount.
