DID YOU KNOW...

  • Remember to complete your FAFSA for the 2008-2009 school year as soon as possible after January 1, 2008 . Save time and do it online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov. Complete your FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1st. Applications submitted before March 1st are given first priority consideration for Federal Supplemental Grants, Federal Work-Study, and Federal Student Incentive Grants, as well as state and institutional assistance.

  • To apply for the SPC Foundation Scholarships, complete the Scholarship Application Online.

    The 2008-2009 SPRING SPC Foundation Scholarship online application submission dates are:  Oct. 6 – Nov. 14, 2008.

  • Check it out! You may view your Financial Assistance Award letter and also check the status of your financial assistance online. Log into MySPC through the PeopleSoft online student system. Once in PeopleSoft, navigate to:

SA Self Services > Learner Services > Finances > View My Financial Aid

Select the Aid Year you would like to view. The Financial Assistance Awards that you have been awarded for that year will be displayed.

  • You can go online to find out who services your Stafford Loan. Go to: http://www.spcollege.edu/Central/ssfa/LoansPage/l_index.htm. Choose Find Out Who Services Your Stafford Loan on the left. You will then need to enter your social security number and birth date. Listed will be the organizations that have reported to hold your loans. You should contact them regarding questions related to deferments, forbearances, and repayment options.


SPC & The National Science Foundation (NSF) Awards Program
Description: This is offering financial awards up to $3,125 to eligible students.
Criteria: Must be a full time SPC student who is a U.S. Citizen, National, or alien admitted as a refugee at the time of application; must be in  financial need; must be enrolled, or willing to enroll in an A.A. or A.S. in the areas of computer science, computer technology, pre-engineering. Engineering technology, mathematics or information technology security.  Must have a minimum GPA of 2.50.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation
Description:The Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program offers various scholarships up to $30,000 annually.  The student must provide an online application, applicant and parent financial information, the institution nomination, two recommendations, and college and high school transcripts.
Criteria:  Must be a student at an accredited US community college or two-year institution with sophomore status, OR a recent graduate (within the last five years); have a cumulative GPA of 3.5; plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to begin studies in Fall 2009; be nominated by his or her two-year institution; and have demonstrated financial need.
Deadline:  Completed application and all supporting documentation must be mailed to SPC Scholarship Office, P.O. Box 13489, St. Petersburg, FL  33733 by December 12, 2008.  Please include Student ID and daytime phone number.


Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship
Description:  Offers various scholarships up to $7,500 annually for students intending to pursue a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering.  Four-year institutions are eligible to nominate up to four students who are in the sophomore or junior class during 2008-2009.  The student must provide an online application, the institution nomination, three recommendations, essay, and college and high school transcripts.
Criteria: 
Full-time sophomore or junior during 2008-2009; have a college GPA of at least 3.0 and be in the upper fourth of his or her class; be a US Citizen, permanent resident, or a US National.  All students must be nominated by their college or university.
Deadline:  Completed application and all supporting documentation must be mailed to SPC Scholarship Office, P.O. Box 13489, St. Petersburg, FL  33733 by January 9, 2009.  Please include Student ID and daytime phone number.


EXTERNAL SCHOLARSHIPS
The Scholarships listed below are offered by private organizations and/or organizations not affiliated with SPC and MUST be returned to the address given on the application form. Where noted, further information and/or applications must be printed from the web site of the organization offering the scholarship.
 

Talbots Charitable Foundation
Description:  Offering various awards through the 2009 Talbots Women’s Scholarship Fund.
Criteria:  Applicants must be women currently residing in the U.S. or Canada; Must have earned a high school diploma/GED on or before September 1999 and be currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-/part-time undergraduate program.  Students must attend the full 2009-10 academic year, and receiving a degree no earlier than May 2010; and have at least two (2) semesters remaining to complete an undergraduate degree as of the beginning of the 2009 academic term.  Students who have previously obtained a bachelor’s degree are not eligible to apply.
Deadline:  Applications and additional documents must be received by January 2, 2009; only the first 1,500 eligible applications received will be processed.  


The Florida Association of Educational Data Systems   FAEDS
Description: Teacher Scholarship.
Criteria:  Any Florida teacher who has been accepted in a post-baccalaureate degree seeking program at an accredited Florida public or private college or university and is seeking a degree related to instructional computing or computer science.  Must also be a U.S. citizen and resident of Florida.
Deadline:  Applications must be received by February 15, 2009.


The Florida Association of Educational Data Systems   FAEDS
Description: Offering the Dr. Robert W. Sims Memorial Scholarship.
Criteria:  Applicants must be a post-secondary student with at least a 2.5 GPA; U.S. citizen; resident of Florida; attending or planning to attend an accredited Florida public or private college, and is planning to major in a computer science/information technology related field.
Deadline:  Applications must be received by February 15, 2009.


Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM)
Description: Six students will receive a 1-year scholarship to attend FIDM. Scholarship includes tuition, fees, books, and most supplies.
Criteria: Students must demonstrate an exceptional talent and interest in Fashion Design, Visual Communications, Interior Design, Digital Media, Fashion Merchandising, or Graphic Design.
Deadline: April 30, 2009

BigSun Scholarship
Description: BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual $500.00 scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.
Criteria: Applicant must be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution.

Arts for Life Scholarship
Description: Recognizes 25 graduating high school seniors from across Florida for outstanding achievement in arts.  Each recipient receives a $1,000.00 cash scholarship toward their pursuit of the arts in higher education.
Critieria: Must be a graduating high school senior from a public, private or home education program in Florida.  Applicants must submit a completed application (see link above), a brief essay explaining “How the arts have positively influenced my life” and “What role the arts will play in my future”, and a sample of work in dance, music theatre or visual arts.
Deadline:   Applications must be postmarked no later than February 2, 2009. 



AES  Engineers
Description: Is pleased to be able to continue providing a $500.00 scholarship to a high school senior or college student (regardless of courses being studied) who meet certain criteria. Our belief is that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped.  For that reason we are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by evaluating essays that are submitted.
Criteria:
Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility. You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible.
Deadline: October 6, 2009
Students must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to one of the two questions that are posted on our site:    http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm


The Sallie Mae 911 Education Fund
Description: Provides scholarships up to $2,500 to the children of those who were killed or permanently disabled as a result of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
Criteria:  Applicants must be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at accredited institutions.

Southern Scholarship Foundation
Description: Provides financial assistance to students earning a college degree.  The foundation provides students with rent-free housing in a cooperative living environment.
Criteria: Must demonstrate financial need by submitting FAFSA, have a 3.0 GPA or higher, submit an essay with character references, and have been accepted by FSU, UF, FAMU, or FGCU. A photograph no larger than 3” x 2  5/16” is required as well as a copy of the university acceptance letter. Interview with staff after application submission is recommended. The Hispanic College Fund- Scholarship Program
Description: Several scholarships are available through the Hispanic College Fund website.   There are different deadlines and requirements for each scholarship. 
Criteria: Each scholarship has different requirements please see the website for more information.

Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants are pleased to announce that the scholarship program will be continued for 2008.  In 2007 we had one winner from Arkansas and one from North Carolina.

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)
Description: Offers three merit scholarship programs for students transferring to RIT in 2008-2009. They are:
            Trustee Scholarship ($7,500 to $9,000 per year)
            Transfer Achievement Scholarship ($6,000 per year)
            Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship ($2,000 per year)
Criteria: The criteria for each of the above scholarships are as follows:
            Trustee Scholarships- Student must be admitted to an RIT academic program as a full-time student, will complete an associate degree prior to enrolling at RIT, and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, as computed by RIT, to receive a $7,500 scholarship, or a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher, as computed by RIT, to receive a $9,000 scholarship.
            Transfer Achievement Scholarships- Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, as computed by RIT, who have completed over 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours at previous institutions. (This scholarship may not be combined with the Trustee Scholarship)
            Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships- Student must be a PTK member who completes an associate degree prior to enrolling at RIT. Scholarships are renewable with a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher. Student must submit proof of membership prior to acceptance.
