All students receiving VA educational benefits are eligible to defer their tuition up to 60 days, once per academic year, if they are in good financial standing. VA deferments are offered as a convenience and tuition must be paid by the deferment deadline, whether or not checks are received from the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). Students who are withdrawn from courses for nonpayment of VA deferments or short-term student loans will have their VA certification terminated.
VA deferments are not authorized for veterans not using the entitlement.
All VA students must be degree seeking. It is the student's responsibility to ensure he/she is in a degree program and following that program by taking only those classes that are necessary for that program. At the time of registration, make sure courses selected meet the requirements toward your specific degree.

Note of Caution
St. Petersburg College (SPC) awards only an Associate of Arts general degree and unlike an Associate in Science degree, it does not require specific electives for graduation. Therefore, VA students pursuing an A. A. degree must take extra care in selecting elective courses because any college credit course can be used as an elective and will be certified for VA payment and counted as part of the 24 term hour electives required for graduation. Students pursuing an A. A. degree with a university parallel program in a specific area of emphasis needed for admission to upper division programs in Florida's public universities will be certified for only those courses required for that particular area. Veterans are encouraged to make necessary program changes before the start of the term. If students change their program at any time, the VA representative at one of the four campuses must be notified and the appropriate form completed (VA Form 22-1995 or 22-5495(Chapter 35). Both programs must agree in order to be certified.
