Application Requirements

  • All Applicants:
    • Must complete a FAFSA application. Verification and other checklist items must be completed in order to determine eligibility for employment opportunities. International students are exempt from completing the FAFSA.

    • Must be enrolled in a degree seeking program.
    • Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress in order to have eligibility for employment.
    • Complete the Student Employment Application online.

SPC Student Employment consists of two programs

  • Federal Work Study
    • On campus employment
    • Community Service through America Reads and America Counts
  • Student Assistant

Federal Work Study

  • Federal Work Study (FWS) is a government funded, need based financial assistance program. FWS is awarded to students based on their demonstrated financial need on a first come, first served basis. Demonstrated need is determined through results of the FAFSA. Eligible applicants, based on results of the Student Employment Application, are evaluated for financial need and assigned a specific number of hours that they can work throughout the academic year assisting SPC departments on campus or with the America Reads/America Counts programs off campus.

  • Occasionally, a student's FWS eligibility may require revision even though the student may already be working in order to prevent an over-award. The purpose of Federal Work Study is to provide students with the opportunity to pay for college by working their way through part of their costs. Students are generally restricted to working no more than 20 hours a week.

Community Service

  • Community Service Learning is a component of the Federal Work Study Program. SPC participates in the America Reads and America Counts community service projects.

Student Assistant

  • The Student Assistant (SA) program is a campus based non-need based employment program. Student's eligibility is determined by availability of departmental funds. Students will know if they have SA eligibility based on results of the Student Employment Application. International students may be eligible to work on campus through the Student Assistant program. Students are generally restricted to working no more than 20 hours a week.
