Your Answer: Iron Deficiency Anemia Virtual Laboratory
Briefly describe or summarize the Activity/RLO:
Your Answer: This is a tutorial on iron deficiency anemia. It
provides a computer simulation in which students "perform" and
interpret four laboratory tests on a patient to determine if the patient has
iron deficiency anemia. Quizzes are provided at the end of the tutorial and at
the end of each laboratory test to assess the students' understanding of the
concepts. Feedback is provided.

outline)?
Your Answer: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the
interpretation of laboratory data and an appreciation for the processes used in
the diagnosis and treatment of hematological disorders.
What is(are)
the Course Objective(s) addressed by this Activity/RLO (stated in
performance terms)?
Your Answer: The student will demonstrate an understanding of the
interpretation of laboratory data and an appreciation for the processes used in
the diagnosis and treatment of hematological disorders by: a.defining
"anemia" and listing three laboratory manifestations of an anemia.
b.discussing the classification of anemia. c.discussing the basic etiology,
physiology, relevant laboratory findings and morphologic features of the major
categories of anemias.

Instructions -
Give detailed step-by-step instructions on how to conduct this
Activity/RLO:
Your Answer: Step-by-step instructions are provided in the RLO. The
student reads the case study, goes through the tutorial on iron deficiency
anemia, performs and interprets the four laboratory tests to arrive at a
diagnosis, and takes the five quizzes.

Activity/RLO address? - Select all that apply:
Your Answer: Problem-solving, Evaluation, Analysis
How will this
improve our students’ ability to think critically?
Your Answer: This RLO teaches students to select, perform, and
interpret tests for the diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia. The visuals and
animations make the exercise interesting and the interactivity engages the
learner. The excercise should increase understanding and retention of the
information.
Have you
consulted the Activity/RLO Guidelines?
Your Answer: Yes
