Funeral Director and Embalmer Licensure Checklist

Once you have completed your educational program, you will need to complete the following to become licensed as a funeral director.

At the beginning of the final semester, complete the graduation application by going to MySPC located on the College's main website

Beginning January 1, 2004, all Funeral Service Education Students must take the National Board Examination as a requirement of the program. For SPC, the National Board Examination is required as part of the Funeral Practicum course. During the final semester,the practicum instructor will give you directions on applying for the National Board Examination administered by the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards.

After you have completed the coursework and have taken both the Arts and Sciences section of the National Board Examination, complete the application and forms required by the Board of Funeral, Cemetery and Consumer Services, by going to their website.

Request a copy of your transcript to be sent to the Board of Funeral, Cemetery and Consumer Services at the end of the semester in which you complete the practicum course.

The transcripts should be sent to the board at the address listed on their website linked above.

Submit documentation that you have completed a State Board approved course on HIV/AIDS which is no older than 2 yeras. The course is required to be a 2-hour program. You will need to keep your certificate or letter that documents your completion of this requirement.
