Veterinary Technology AS Campus Program

St. Petersburg College offers a two-year Associate in Science degree program in Veterinary Technology, designed to give students the knowledge and skills to become a certified Verterinary Technician.

We have three categories of students in our program:

• Full-time On-campus students who complete the program in two years.
• Part-time On-campus students who may complete the program in more than two years.
• Distance education students, who are expected to take a maximum of 5-7 credit hours per semester, which will mean at least 3 years to complete degree requirements.

What is Articulation?

Articulation is the system by which a student who has successfully completed the VetMedTeam Assistant Program can transfer some of the credits earned to AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) accredited veterinary technology programs.

Why is Articulation valuable?

Articulation itself demonstrates the superior quality of the course content within the VetMedTeam Assistant Program. In order for credits to be transferable, the skills and knowledge contained in the VMTA Program were reviewed by the institution to determine if they met the levels contained within the technology program. In addition, the student will earn 5 credit hours toward the Veterinary Technology Program at a rate that is substantially less than the regular non-resident tuition.

What does Articulation mean to the Employer?

Employees are assets to be developed, not an expense to be managed. The fact that the VetMedTeam Assistant Program has been approved for articulation helps the employer understand the excellent content to cost ratio of the Program. The VetMedTeam Assistant Program can serve as a springboard for employees who desire to develop their skills and knowledge but are unsure if they want to move straight into a technology program. The VMTA Program will introduce them to structured learning within veterinary medicine and offer the option of moving on to a technology program.

What does Articulation mean to the student?

Evaluating the worth of all the various assistant courses available through correspondence course and traditional brick and mortar schools can be very difficult. The VMTA Program meets the curricular guidelines of the NAVTA (North American Veterinary Technician Association) educational committee. The VMTA Program is designed to work within everyone's schedule and students can be assured that they are enrolling in a superior Program.

Upon the completion of the 8-module Vet Med Team Veterinary Assistant Program, students will be credited for 5 classes in our program listed below:

ATE 1311 – Veterinary Office Procedures I
ATE 1650L – Veterinary Clinical Practice I
ATE 1741 – Veterinary Medical Terminology
ATE 1943 – Veterinary Work Experience I
ATE 1944 – Veterinary Work Experience II
