Welcome to the Human Services Program

The Human Services program provides a conducive learning environment for students interested in pursuing a career in the helping professions. The program will educate and train students to be well functioning entry level human services practitioners. Some examples of employment opportunities include:

  • Behavioral Technicians
  • Child Care Workers
  • Youth Development Advocates
  • Child protective case workers
  • Counselors
  • Early intervention workers
  • Family support workers
  • Outreach workers
  • Residential counselors
  • Vocational counselors
  • Shelter workers
  • Crisis intervention counselors 
  • Alcohol & substance abuse counselors

The goals of the SPC Human Services Program are as follows:

  • Students will develop an understanding of the role that proper communication skills play in the Human Services setting.
  • Students will develop the knowledge base required of an entry-level human services worker.
  • Students will develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills required of an entry-level human services worker.
  • The program will promote professional growth within the field and encourage life long learning experiences.

Important Information

  • In order to be successful in the Human Services Program, the student must be able to demonstrate essential student functions
  • Applicants should possess good interpersonal skills.
  • Job market: There is currently a great demand for qualified Human Services workers in Pinellas County and in the nation as a whole.
