Radiography Mission Statement and Goals:The mission of the St.
Petersburg College Radiography Program is to provide the knowledge, skills,
and attitudes that will culminate in successful employment of the graduate
as a Registered Technologist in Radiography or RT(R).
The goals of the SPC Radiography Program are as follows:
- The program will meet industry standards for student retention,
national examination pass rates and graduate employment.
- Students will develop an understanding of the role that proper
communication skills play in the healthcare setting.
- Students will develop the knowledge base required of an entry-level
radiographer.
- Students will develop the psychomotor skills required of an
entry-level radiographer.
- Students will develop the critical thinking and problem-solving
skills required of an entry-level radiographer.
- The program will promote professional growth within the field and
encourage life long learning experiences.
Important Information
- In order to be successful in the Radiography Program, the student must be able to demonstrate
essential student functions
- Applicants should have strong mathematics and science backgrounds; and possess good interpersonal
skills.
- Time for completion of Program: Two Years (6 Semesters)
- Beginning Salary Range: $37,500 - $40,000.
Progression:
Radiography is the art of science of applying ionizing radiation to human beings to diagnose disease.
Radiographers are health care professionals trained to use radiation to produce images of various
structures of the human anatomy. These images or radiographs are used to
visualize bones and organs in the body for diagnosis by radiologists and
medical doctors who specialize in interpreting radiographs.
Radiography is a profession in which technologists must balance superior technical knowledge and skill
with strong desire to care for people. Successful radiographers must be
alert, accurate, congenial, flexible, and willing to work with the ill and
the disabled.
Graduates of the Radiography program will earn an Associate in Science
Degree and are eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic
Technology's national certification examination. They will also be
qualified to apply for a license as a general radiographer through the
Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Radiation Control.
