The Respiratory Care program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), in collaboration with the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), 1248 Harwood Road Bedford, TX 76021, 1-817-283-2835.

CoARC graduates receive the degree of Associate in Science in Respiratory Care. Upon degree completion, graduates apply to take the entry-level certification examination of the National Board for Respiratory Care. Following successful completion of (1) the program curriculum and (2) NBRC certification and registry examinations, the graduate will become a Registered Respiratory Therapist.

Registered Respiratory therapists (RRTs) care for patients of all ages, from a 28 week old premature infant to a 92 year old patient on a mechanical ventilator

Respiratory therapists work in a variety of settings, including
                        -acute care hospitals
                        -rehabilitation hospitals
                        -sleep laps
                        -diagnostic testing centers
                        -pulmonary rehab clinics
                        -physician’ offices
          
There is a large demand for RRTs nationwide, and there is a near critical shortage of RRTs in the Tampa Bay area.

The median salary range for RRTs in the Tampa Bay area is 38,000-45,000 annually, and these jobs are secure in any economy.

You can become an RRT in 24 months without leaving the area, and financial aid is readily available

St Petersburg College offers one of the oldest, most successful RT programs in the country. While the program has been producing highly qualified RRTs since the 1971 it has spent hundred of thousands of dollars to insure students are instructed in the latest technology in this high tech, high demand field.  The on site simulation hospital here on campus uses the latest technology available to help students feel comfortable practicing skills in a controlled setting.

SPC’s RT program is designed to accommodate the needs of students of all ages and schedules.  Recent graduates include a 20 year old and a 65 year old.  The program is designed to help accommodate the working student.

SPC RRT graduates score 20-30% higher than the national average on exams, and almost all graduates and their employers state they are very satisfied with the program.
