Law Enforcement Academy

    Our academy prepares you to become a police officer.

  • These Post Secondary Adult Vocational courses count toward the law enforcement sub-plan of our A.S. degree in Criminal Justice Technology. Our A.S. transfers to our bachelor's degree in Public Safety Administration.

    The Law Enforcement Academy gives you the training you need to pass the Florida Department of Law Enforcement State Officer Certification Examination. SPC's Southeastern Public Safety Institute is an approved FDLE training center and uses the curriculum of the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC).

    Your path to our associate and bachelor's degrees

  • Law Enforcement Academy schedule and length

    22 weeks
    7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
    Monday through Friday
    790 hours

    Full-time evening academies are held occasionally.

  • How to apply to the Academy

    1. Meet the Entry Requirements
    You must have completed at least 30 college credits or a full tour of active military service, with an honorable discharge.

    2. Complete a Background Check
    Complete the Police Applicant Screening Service (PASS) background check for $250.

    3. Mail us your PASS Verification Letter
    After completing the PASS process you will receive a PASS completion letter. Fax or mail a copy of the letter to the attention of Sara Brown:

    4. Receive your Registration Packet
    If accepted, you will receive a registration packet about one month prior to the start date of the academy. The packet includes further information about uniforms, which cost approximately $275.

  • Law Enforcement Academy costs

    In-state residents: $4,000
    Out-of-state residents: $9,964

    Tuition is subject to change. In-state tuition rates only apply to those who can prove Florida residency for at least 12 consecutive months. As part of the admission process, you pay $250 for a background check. Uniforms cost approximately $275.

    Covering your tuition

    As a Law Enforcement Academy student, you are eligible for financial aid and can apply Florida Prepaid toward your tuition. You must pay your fees up front.

    Assistance for veterans

    Financial assistance is available to veterans who qualify. Contact the Veterans Services Office at 727-341-4271 for more information.
