Letter from the Library Director
Dear Community Members, Faculty, Students, and Visitors:
Library Building Modifications: In the coming months we'll see a number of building modifications that will benefit the "library proper" part of the building as well as the larger library facility.
On the first floor:
- A room currently used by the College Technology Resources Specialists (adjacent to the children's room) will be turned over to library use. Two walls will be removed, shelving and seating added, and the space will become the new location for our Large Print collection, which will be moved downstairs from the second floor.
On the second floor:
- More shelving will be added to the circulating collection.
- Two walls of Conference Room 221 will removed and the space used for additional seating or shelving.
- College Classroom 219 will be converted into a "silent study room".
In additions to the items above, the College will be doing modifications in other areas of the larger library facility relating to instructional, programming, and faculty needs.
Library Long Range Plan: In the coming months, the Library Advisory Board, along with representation from the Friends Board and the library staff, will be developing a new Long Range Plan for 2013-15. The new plan will build on the former plan with objectives for services, programming, resources, and staff training.
Special Friends Donation: Last but far from least, I thank the Friends of the Library Board for approval of a special Wish List item for budget year 2012-13. Through the generosity of the Friends Board, three line items in the library operating budget will be entirely funded by the Friends in FY12-13, for a total of $15,500. In lean economic times, when the library budget is stretched to the maximum, the Friends are providing enormous assistance!
Visit and enjoy your library often!
