The Friends of the Seminole Community Library
Located on the first floor of the library, The Friends' Shoppe sells items such as new and used books for adults and children, magazines, jewelry, stuffed animals, greeting cards and miscellaneous small items, all of which have been donated by generous patrons. There are always "specials" and frequently patrons will enjoy a "2 for 1" sale. New volunteers are always welcome, and applications are available at the counter.

The purpose of the Friends is to assist the library in its role as a valuable informational, cultural and educational center of the community. As it is not feasible for the tax-supported library budget to include all the items necessary for the library, the Friends provide financing for these items through membership dues as well as through revenues generated in the Friends' Shoppe by the sale of donated merchandise.
The Friends support the library by:
- Assisting in future goals
- Encouraging financial support through membership and donations
- Providing funds for speakers and monthly programs
- Encouraging functions that benefit the public
- Recruiting volunteers for library activities
- Staffing the "Shoppe"
Among the items that funding from the Friends has provided are:
- Special programs
- A piano for the library program rooms
- Book carts, computer printers and computer stations
- DVD's, audio books, video tapes, magazine subscriptions, reference books
- An audio listening center for all patrons
- A multi-purpose printer
- A Chess Club Coach
- Sunday Musicales

History of Friends of the Seminole Community Library
In May of 1991, Seminole was awarded a $400,000 grant under the Florida Library Construction Act. Groundbreaking for the new library construction took place in October.
As the new Library building was being constructed on 113th Street, the Friends of the Seminole Library was formed, official By-laws were structured, and the Friends became a fully functional organization.
After several years of planning, the City of Seminole and St. Petersburg College on the Seminole Campus partnered to make the library an attractive and functional facility serving the Seminole Community.
In the new building, the Friends progressed from their former "corner" to a "Shoppe" with space, shelving, and display case room to function more efficiently.
