Library Support Groups:

The Friends of the Seminole Community Library
The function of the Friends is to assist the library as a valuable informational, cultural, and educational center of the community. The tax-supported budget does not always include all the items the library needs. The Friends provide the financing for these necessary items through the membership and donations to the Friends' Shoppe.

The Friends support the library by: assisting in future goals; encouraging financial support through membership and donations; providing speakers and monthly programs; encouraging functions that benefit the public; recruiting volunteers for library activities; providing items for sale at the Friends' Shoppe.

The Friends sponsor a monthly program, September through May, generally on the fourth Wednesday. Programs include special speakers, travelogues, author sessions, book reviews, annual membership luncheon, and a holiday program.

Friends of the Library funding has provided: special programs and functions, a piano for the library programs rooms, bookcarts, computer printers and computer stations, video tapes, audio books, magazine subscriptions, books for reference, children, teens, and adults, children's audio listening center, Hooked on Phonics instructional programs, summer activities for children, and holiday decorations, to name but a few!

Membership in the Friends of the Library includes a semi-annual newsletter, special programs, annual luncheon, library activities notification, and the opportunity to volunteer in an area of your choice. Click here for a membership application.

The Friends' Shoppe on the first floor of the library sells many items that are donated by generous patrons, such as new and used books, magazines, jewelry, cards for all occasions, and other small items. Regular customers enjoy the bargain sales. Volunteer applications are available at the counter.

Join the Friends of the Library and have the satisfaction of knowing that you are contributing to the improvement and function of your community library.

Library Advisory Board
The Library Advisory Board is a five-member panel of citizens appointed by Seminole City Council and the St. Petersburg College/Seminole Campus administration. The purpose of the Board is to advise and make recommendations concerning matters of library policy, management, and use. Board members meet at least four times per year, and serve for two-year terms.

Library Youth Advisory Board
The Library Youth Advisory Board was established by the Seminole City Council in October 2002 to encourage youth involvement in the development of library programs and services, and to serve as a voice to City Council regarding legislative matters. Membership is open to any middle school or high school student in Seminole area schools. The LYAB meets on the first and third Thursdays at 7:00 p.m. in the library.
