Youth Services Policy

  1. Mission Statement

    The Seminole Community Library Youth Services Section promotes reading and learning as an important part of family life. We provide a welcoming environment where children, teens, parents, teachers, and childcare workers have access to information and ideas.
  2. Collections

    The Youth Services Section offers a broad selection of materials for ages birth through high school. The library also offers a special Parent/Teacher Collection that includes material for teachers, parents, childcare providers and caregivers.

    The Youth Services Section provides a variety of programs throughout the year:

    • Annual Summer Reading Program
    • Summer Book Clubs
    • Teen Summer Program
    • Thematic Special Programs
    • Sign Language Workshops
    • Author Visits/Workshops

    • Children's Book Week events
    • Teen Library Board meetings
    • Baby Time
    • Bedtime Stories
    The Youth Services Section also participates in various events sponsored by the City of Seminole as appropriate.
  4. Services
    • Provide reference and readers' advisory service
    • Offer a collection that meets the recreational and informational needs of the community
    • Provide computer access
    • Assist the public in the use of library material and equipment
    • Provide tours of the youth and teen areas
    • Schedule class or group visits
    • Plan and present public programs
    • Offer outreach programs to public and private schools, daycares, and other community organizations that serve children
    • Provide a cassette listening station
    • Provide A/V viewing station to view videocassettes and DVDs
    • Provide display space for schools or community agencies
    • Coordinate and supervise a Summer Teen Volunteer Program
    • Coordinate and/or supervise volunteers (adult and teen) in the YS Section
    • Supervise a Library Youth Advisory Board
