RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:
1976-1990. Field collection, sorting and taxonomic identification of pelagic fishes and zooplankton from waters off Florida, Puerto Rico, California, Mexico, Hawaii, Indonesia and Antarctica. Research on age and growth, reproduction, diet, parasitism, abundance and distribution of marine fish species. Research on trophodynamics of Antarctic micronektonic fauna. Performance of physical, geological, chemical and physiological laboratory analyses. Maintenance and shipboard deployment of oceanographic equipment including an exhaustive variety of trawls and nets, dredges, water bottle casts, bathythermograph casts, water profiling tows and other electronic sampling devices.
Extensive research on over 10 vessels entailing over 50 cruises accumulating nearly 2 years total shiptime. I was project leader (supervisor of a team of 1-6 graduate students) for over 30 cruises and Chief Scientist (administrator over all teams of scientists on the ship) on 7 cruises. Cruises include six to Antarctica, one to Hawaii, and several to Mexican and other international waters -all lasting from two weeks to two months. One cruise involved three dives in a deep sea submersible.
The abundance and breadth of my research experience has trained me to be capable of organizing science laboratories in less than ideal conditions as well as being able to deal with most science backgrounds and all educational levels. My considerable field experience represents the ability to provide leadership as well as work within a team.
