College of Education Assessment and Accreditation Home Page
All programs offered by the College of Education at St. Petersburg College are fully accredited by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE). The FLDOE requires all institutions seeking to offer teacher preparation programs to apply for approval from the State of Florida. Teacher preparation programs offered by SPC include initial teacher preparation (baccalaureate) and alternative certification programs (post-baccalaureate) which includes the Educator Preparation Institute. The COE also offers non-certification programs, which are not reviewed by the FLDOE for purposes of accreditation.
Colleges of Education must submit their programs for review to the FLDOE every seven years. All initial teacher preparation programs at SPC received continued program approval in 2010. (See SPC's 2010 Site Visit Summary Report and the exit summary report from the the FLDOE reviewers.)
The COE evaluates its programs on a continual basis as part of a continuous improvement process. Continuing Approval Standards mandated by FLDOE require that all Colleges of Education report data relating to their programs' curriculum, teacher candidate performance, program completers, program evaluation and decision-making process on an annual basis. Data related to teacher preparation programs must be published annually and made available to the public and policy makers.
