the Date - August 22, 2008
Good quality care for the elderly is intrinsically less focused on cure of disease and prolongation of life, and more focused on maximization of two inseparable domains: functional capacity and quality of life. This is an especially important direction of care, often the only direction of any real value, for older patients in long term care settings. This one-day workshop will focus on practical strategies to restore and improve functional capacity and quality of life for older patients in long term care.
Topics include: frailty, depression, the role of nursing in restoring function, restoring bowel and bladder function nutritional support and tube feeding, assessing rehabilitative
potential, motivating patients, involving the family in restorative care, restoring function in patients with low vision, optimizing
sexual function in the elderly, helpful hints for your most difficult patients.
