Criminal Justice Technology Academic Degree and
Professional Certificate Programs

The Criminal Justice academic program at St. Petersburg College is the oldest program of its kind in Florida. Designed in 1959 to provide educational opportunities for in-service law enforcement administrators and supervisors, the program today offers Associate in Science degrees to a student population that is more than 95 percent civilian. In addition, numerous professional certifications are also available.

Criminal Justice Technology: Public Safety Services A.S. degree – This flexible program provides students with a diverse background in the history, philosophy, organization and operation of various arenas of public safety. Students select an option/sub plan listed below and receive a well-rounded foundation in the public safety field. The Associate in Science degree program also allows students to meet the entrance requirements to continue SPC's SPC's Bachelor of Applied Science in Public Safety Administration.

Law Enforcement and Corrections Academies – Students who successfully complete the law enforcement or corrections academies can use specific training as coursework towards their A.S. degree. Program graduates must pass a state certification exam.

Homeland Security – The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment in the field of Emergency Management, with specialization in Homeland Security. Also offered as professional certificate.

Criminal Justice Gang Activity

Cross Discipline – Students may take 24 credits of cross discipline courses from any of the following prefixes: CCJ, CJB, CJC, CJE, CJL, DSC.

Criminal Justice Technology Professional Certificate Programs

Computer Related Crime Investigation – This certificate requires eight courses which include skills in researching, investigating, using computer software, interpreting laws, and using the Internet as an investigative tool.

Crime Scene Technology – This certificate program prepares crime scene technicians who will be able to locate, identify, process and preserve the crime scene. These courses will apply toward the A.S. degree in Crime Scene Technology.


Homeland Security – This certificate is a comprehensive certificate focused on policy, planning and administration of emergency response teams and systems. These courses apply towards the Emergency Administration and Management Associate in Science degree.
