Crisis Intervention for Corrections - This 40-hour seminar covers all aspects of crisis intervention for correctional officers, including crisis diffusion techniques, hostage situations, sources and kinds of stress, and the results of stressors such as abusive behavior. Management techniques for resolution, physical and psychological, are presented. Approved by CJSTC for Salary Incentive.
Discipline and Special Confinement - This week-long course covers all aspects of discipline and special confinement techniques in correctional and detention facilities. Topics include legal issues and procedures, interpersonal communication and role playing, and recognizing and handling abnormal behavior. The correctional officer’s role in the use of physical force as well as methods and procedures of discipline are emphasized. Approved by CJSTC for Salary Incentive.
Emergency Preparedness for Corrections - This course offers correctional and emergency personnel details on the rationale and format for standardized emergency plans, disturbances and disorder planning training, hostage plans, situations and resolutions, and management and leadership styles affecting emergencies. The class runs for one week. Approved by CJSTC for Salary Incentive.
Firefighting for Corrections - Correctional personnel will learn the basic concept of fire behavior as it applies to the jail or prison. Instruction in the use and operation of fire apparatus, including sprinklers, extinguishers, protective breathing apparatus, fire hoses and nozzles, is provided, along with scenarios in search and rescue efforts. The roles of correctional officers, as well as the fire department, are discussed. Approved by CJSTC for Salary Incentive.
Hostage Negotiation for Corrections - This 40-hour course teaches jail/prison officers the principles of disturbance management. Training in the basic concepts of emergency, riot and hostage situations and ideas, techniques and precautions for successful resolution with minimum use of force and the least possible injury/loss of life are stressed. Injury and Death Investigation in Jails and Prisons - This course is designed to enhance the correctional officer’s knowledge, skills and abilities in crime scene recognition and management in the jail and prison settings. All aspects of injury and death crime scene management are explained, including the purpose, procedures and specific techniques. Approved by CJSTC for Salary Incentive.
Instructor Techniques - This 80-hour course enhances the officer's knowledge, skill and ability to provide effective training to fellow criminal justice personnel. CJSTC Approved Specialized Training.
Jail Suicide Prevention - An eight-hour, one-day seminar is offered to jail and prison personnel in the prevention of suicide in correctional facilities. Concepts discussed include jail suicide litigation, research, symptoms of suicidal behavior, assessing suicidal risk, jail design, support for staff and other suicide prevention issues.
People-Oriented Positive Leadership and Strategies for Supervising Malcontents - Directed at supervisory personnel at all levels, and those aspiring to supervisory positions, this 24-hour course allows participants to make an assessment of themselves as leaders, acknowledge personal weaknesses and strengths, and to develop a plan to improve leadership qualities. Strategies for dealing with and supervising malcontent employees is also discussed.
Sex Crimes Investigation in Jails and Prisons - This week-long seminar provides a comprehensive understanding of the complexities involved and sensitivity required in solving sex crimes in jails and prisons.
Special Fire Safety Inspector - This 40-hour course for correctional/detention officers is designed to provide advanced training for correctional and jail personnel responsible for fire safety inspections and facility compliance with accreditation standards. This course does not meet the certification training requirements outlined under Florida Administrative Code (4A-39.0097) for Special Fire Safety Inspector.
Stress Awareness and Resolution - Sources and kinds of stress are defined along with the results of stressors such as abusive behavior in this 40-hour course. Physical and psychological stress management techniques are presented, along with solutions for dealing with traumas and abusive behaviors. Approved for CJSTC Salary Incentive.
Supervisory Techniques for Corrections - This interactive week-long seminar provides correctional personnel with the skills to successfully supervise subordinates. Participants will discuss the evolution of the concept of supervision, supervisory styles, leadership styles and effective supervision.
Writing Skills for Corrections - The basics of report writing are outlined in this 24-hour seminar for officers in jails and prisons. Emphasis is placed on the essential elements of reports, required details, formatting and basic spelling and grammar.
Youthful Offender Program - This course is designed to provide the officer with increased knowledge and experience related to supervision and behavior patterns of youthful offenders. Approved for CJSTC Salary Incentive.
