So you want to be a cheerleader?
General information and requirements
- Cheerleading requires a very flexible schedule. Please, NO night or weekend classes for 2 sessions.
- Must be a full-time SPC student enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours.
- Must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0. If
student's cumulative GPA falls below the 2.0 requirement, student
will not remain on the squad.
- Will cheer for men's and women's home basketball games and possibly women's volleyball games. All home games will be at the St. Petersburg/Gibbs campus gym
- Practices will be set once the squad is chosen.
- If the cheerleader completes the first semester of 12 or more
credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better and fulfills
the cheerleader guidelines and responsibilities, the cheerleader
will receive stipend during Session II.
- The college will purchase the uniform (which must be returned) and
shoes, etc.
- Supplemental insurance is provided by the college, which covers the
balance of a claim after your primary insurance pays.
Guidelines for Cheerleading Clinic and Tryouts
- Be on time. The clinic is from 6-8 pm, September 8 - 10.
Tryouts are September 12 at 7 pm.
- Wear dark shorts and a white shirt.
- Wear support shoes only - no KedsTM. Wear socks at all times.
- Wear hair away from face (pulled back).
- No heavy make-up.
- No jewelry (rings, watches, bracelets, ankle chains).
- No gum.
- No family members or friends during the clinic and tryouts.
- No visible tattoos. Nails must be neat and short at all times.
- No eye, nose, or tongue rings. This also applies to practice and games. Belly rings must be kept covered.
Failure to observe rules can lead to bench time, suspension, or removal.
