Cheerleaders will cheer for men's and women's basketball and perform at pep rallies and any functions representing St. Petersburg College.
- Your schedule must be very flexible. Please, no night or weekend classes for two sessions.
- You must be a full-time SPC student that is enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours
- You must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0. If you cumulative GPA falls below the 2.0 requirement, you will not remain on the cheerleading squad.
- You will cheer for men’s and women’s basketball, and possibly for women volleyball.
- Cheerleaders will perform at pep rallies and any functions representing St. Petersburg College.
- The practice will be set once the squad is chosen.
- If you complete the first of 12 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better and fulfills the cheerleader guidelines and responsibilities and responsibilities, you will receive a stipend during session II.
- The college will purchase the uniforms (which must be returned) and possibly shoe, etc.
- Cheerleaders are financially responsible for loss, damage, repair and or replacement of uniform. Spot cleaning and/or dry cleaning may be required. Uniforms must be returned at the end of the basketball season or when student is no longer a cheerleader. If uniforms are not returned, the student’s records will be placed on “HOLD”.
- Supplemental insurance is provided by college, which covers the balance of a claim after your primary insurance pays.
- Cheerleaders will wear designated uniform/outfit to school on game days. No heavy make-up or jewelry may be worn at the game.
- Practice attire: Neat short, tops and appropriate undergarment are to be worn. Tennis shoes and socks must be worn at all times. School clothes are not appropriate. Hair should be tied back securely. Nail must be cut short for practice and performance.
- Cheerleaders will conduct themselves with dignity and pride on and off campus, upholding the highest standard of St. Petersburg College. Cheerleaders will be examples of cooperative attitude, especially while in uniform.
- Cheerleaders who quit or are removed for non-compliance to any rules may be ineligible for future cheerleader tryout. School suspension or academic probation will result in automatic dismissal.
- Cheerleading schedules or practice, games, and functions will be provided well in advance. Illness of self and/or death in the family are the only excused absences. All appointments and other commitments should be scheduled around cheerleading. Failure to attend the game and practices will result in benching during game, or suspension and or/ removal.
- Cheerleading for SPC is a commitment of your time. If you participate in additional organizations or activities that will compete for your time, cheering for SPC MUST take priority over other obligations. Splitting your obligation is unacceptable.
CONDITIONS IN WHICH A CHEERLEADER MAY BE DISMISSED OR SUSPENDED FROM THE SQUAD.
- Ineligibility ( failure to maintain cumulative 2.0 GPA, not enrolled in 12 credit hours, non-compliance to rules).
- Poor conduct as determined by the sponsor, athletic director and administration.
- Substance abuse (drugs, alcohol, tobacco)
- Misconduct when involved as a cheerleader and outside activities where it affects leadership status.
CHEER PRACTICE & TRYOUT GUIDELINE
Practice dates: November 3rd, 4th, 5th, @ 4:30 to 6:30
Location: St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus Quad
Try Out Date: November 6th @ 4:30-6:30
Location: TBA (must wear dark blue or black shorts and plain white shirt.)
BE ON TIME
- Wear dark shorts and white short.
- Wear support shoes ( no Keds) Wear socks at all time.
- Wear hair away from f ace ( pulled back).
- No jewelry( rings, watch, bracelets, ankle chains)
- No gum.
- No family or friends during the practice or tryouts.
- No visible tattoos, nails must be neat and short at all times
- No eye, nose, tongue rings. This also applies to practice and games. Belly rings must be kept covered.
- Must attend all 3 practices.
- Student must present proof of passing Physical Exam within past 2 months.
- Student must present doctor’s release for any previous bodily injury, i.e. leg, ankle, wrist, shoulder, knee, etc.
